I awake from my deep slumber and immediately peace overcomes me, I can hear an array of birds awakening Africa to a new day. Among these masters of magical sounds are Emerald-Spotted Wood Doves, Black-headed Orioles, various hornbills, and my absolute favourite, the Burchell’s Coucal. This nostalgic sound is a shared love within my family, and although the bird in all its glory has an almost grim and gloomy look to it, a sighting always excites us!
